Replacing a DYNTTS power supply and Opto-Isolator board (AB Drive Type)
This document will go through the best way of replacing the power supply, and how to install an Opto-isolator board on a DYNTTS with motors driven by Allen-Bradley Drives.
Power Supply
Removing old Power Supply
Unplug the connectors to the PSU.
To remove the old PSU, the drive for the Radial motor will need to be lifted off of its fixings.
Unscrew the 4 countersunk screws that hold the PSU in place.
Disconnect the spade connector’s that join the PSU to the terminal block.
The ballast resistor (small resistor connected to provide load to the PSU) must be removed if present. Unscrew and disconnect if this is connected to the black plate or leave attached to the PSU if bolted to the PSU frame.
Fitting Power supply
Fit the new PSU using the screws supplied (M4 X 16) The PSU has been fitted to a plate to make fitting easier.
Connect the output loom as shown and connect to the terminal block.
Use the original power mains wire and plug in the opposite end of the PSU.
Switch on the machine and check the voltages on the Power supply are correct as shown. Connect the Black probe of the multi-meter to the Black wire.
+5 volts: Black, Red
+12 volts: Black, Violet
+24 volts: Black, Orange
12 volts: Black, Blue
The photo below shows what the new power supply fitted and wired correctly should look like.
Fitting Opto-Isolator board
The Opto-Isolator Protects the Encoder chips on the motor drive from any ESD damage
Bolt the Opto board to the 9 way D type connector and fix in place using the hex posts supplied. Connect the 9 way loom to the opto board, and then the opposite end to the PSU terminal block.
The image Below shows the Encoder board at the top of the panel, with the 25way D type connector underneath.
All wiring will be completed by GDS but the connectors orientation will be the following:
P3
+ = +24V Orange from PSU
= 0V Black
P4
Top pin 4 - Empty
Pin 3 Blue 0V
Pin 2 red +5v from drive
Pin 1 - Empty
